Timo Andersson’s solo exhibition Magic Window consists of a series of works from the past year.
His works are subtle painted objects on acrylic and polyester mesh fabric, with soft polypropylene frames that conceal lively yet enigmatic, inward-turned, porous image surfaces. These surfaces are simultaneously inviting and closed off—like doors slightly ajar or brick walls. They either avoid easy interpretation or provide their keys in a polished yet deceptive form.
Since childhood, Andersson has been more interested in creating worlds and environments than in storytelling. These works continue this direction; they are gardens surrounded by walls, closed systems, and riddles with no solutions. They are closed visual arguments that exist for themselves, each other, and the viewer.
Timo Andersson (b. 1989, Jyväskylä, now living in Espoo) graduated with a Master’s degree in Fine Arts from the Academy of Fine Arts, University of the Arts Helsinki, in 2018.
