Interruption in Continuity
Johannes Heikkilä’s exhibition 0424 1025 explores the passage of time and the layering of experience within it. For Heikkilä, the works are a form of visual thinking, where recurring structures and forms serve as a method or attempt to comprehend both internal and external realities and their inseparability. The body of work opens a time frame in which individual paintings form a series of pauses, interruptions in eternity.
Heikkilä’s practice is mainly grounded in a constructive visual language that holds personal significance and expressive power for him. The works display variations of different structures, some purely constructive, others more freely composed. These forms crystallize observations, emotions, and thoughts that together reveal aspects of both physical and psychological existence.
Johannes Heikkilä (b. 1986) is a visual artist based in Rovaniemi. His artistic practice primarily encompasses painting and printmaking. Heikkilä graduated from the Free Art School in 2010 and from the Academy of Fine Arts (Department of Printmaking) in 2019.
